Reflection

What Worked Well

  • Focused on creating a simple and intuitive user experience for stakeholders with limited software familiarity.
  • Designed clear dashboards and structured workflows that reduced complexity and improved visibility into project data.
  • Used familiar patterns and terminology to minimize the learning curve for users transitioning from tools like Tally and Zoho.
  • Role-based interfaces helped users focus only on information relevant to their responsibilities.
  • Desktop-first layouts allowed better presentation of financial data, reports, project layouts, and inventory management.

Challenges & Learnings

  • The initial mobile-first approach was difficult for users to navigate due to the large number of features and workflows compressed into a small screen.
  • Many target users were 40+ years old and preferred larger screens for reviewing financial information, layouts, and reports.
  • Complex project management workflows became harder to understand on mobile devices because of limited screen space and multiple navigation layers.
  • Through user testing and feedback, it became clear that a desktop experience aligned better with existing user behavior and work processes.

Key Outcome

  • Shifting from a mobile-focused design to a desktop-first experience was the biggest product and UX improvement.
  • The transition significantly improved usability, reduced confusion, simplified navigation, and increased adoption among project owners, partners, and managers.
  • The final design prioritized clarity over feature density, making the platform easier to learn and use for non-technical users.

Final Takeaway

Summary

This project taught me that successful product design is not about fitting more features into an interface, but about understanding user behavior and creating workflows that feel familiar, intuitive, and efficient. The decision to move from a mobile-first approach to a desktop-first experience reinforced the importance of validating design decisions through real user feedback rather than assumptions.
